Navigating Maximo v.7.6.1.x End of Support

On April 12th, 2022, IBM announced that Maximo 7.6.1.x would reach the End of Support on September 30th, 2025. Since then, there has been a lot of confusion about what this means and what options customers who may not be ready to upgrade to the Maximo Application Suite (MAS) have.

What does Maximo v7.6.1.x reaching ‘End of Support’ mean?

The September 30th, 2025, ‘End of Support’ date for Maximo v7.6.1.x signifies that IBM will no longer provide Base Support for this product.  IBM will not provide updates, patches, enhancements, or general technical support past this date.  The recommended path for Maximo v7.6.1.x customers is to upgrade to Maximo Application Suite before the End of Support date; however, some customers may not be ready. For these customers, there are a few different options to extend the life of their Maximo v7.6.1.x system.

What options exist for Maximo v7.6.1.x customers who are not ready to upgrade to the Maximo Application Suite before September 30th, 2025?

One option for customers not ready to upgrade to Maximo Application Suite is to start the transition by trading up existing Maximo ‘user-based’ license entitlements to MAS ‘AppPoint’ license entitlements.  AppPoints will eventually be required to upgrade to MAS, but transitioning to MAS AppPoint license entitlements grants rights to use legacy Maximo v7.6.1.x under “Dual Entitlement.”  The goal of Dual Entitlement is to ease the migration to MAS.  It is crucial to note that Dual Entitlements are no longer valid entitlements to Maximo v7.6.1.x after April 30th, 2027.  It is a requirement that Dual Entitlement v7.6.1.x customers upgrade to MAS before this date.

Are there any options for continuing to use Maximo v7.6.1 x User-Based License Entitlements past the End of Support date?

Extended support options exist for Maximo v7.6.1.x customers who want to remain on user-based license entitlements past September 30th, 2025.  These options are offered with the understanding that the ultimate path forward is for Maximo 7.6.1.x customers to eventually upgrade to MAS to receive full product support.

Projetech MaaS Extended Support Option

The first option for Maximo v7.6.1.x customers with user-based license entitlements is Projetech’s Maximo as a Service (MaaS) cloud solution with Projetech Extended Support.  Extended Support is added for all Projetech MaaS v7 customers remaining on user-based Maximo entitlements after September 30th, 2025.

Projetech MaaS Extended Support provides flexibility to a Maximo v7.6.1.x customer who is not ready to upgrade to MAS by the end of support date.  The Projetech MaaS Extended Support offering provides standard Projetech MaaS support service level agreements, mitigation and workarounds for critical defects or vulnerabilities identified through client usage of the system, and assistance with the technical upgrade to MAS. The Projetech MaaS Extended Support offering is available through 2030.

What is Provided with Projetech MaaS v7 Extended Support:

Projetech MaaS v7 Extended Support

Standard L1, L2, and L3 support services

Standard Projetech Service Level Agreement

Support for MS SQL, Oracle or DB2 database platforms

Highly available system with 24x7 application monitoring

Backup, restore, and disaster recovery service

Access to IBM documentation, technotes, and other product materials

Existing code patches and fixes released before September 30th, 2025

Mitigation or workaround for critcal defects or vulnerabilities identified through client usage of the system

Client requested new features of enhancements

Analyze for alternative(s)

Support for 3rd party components

Assess and support on a case-by-case basis

Assistance with the technical upgrade to Maximo Application Suite

For customers using Projetech-supplied Maximo license entitlements with MaaS, Projetech can upgrade those entitlements to AppPoints when ready.  Projetech MaaS Extended Support BYOL (Bring Your Own License) customers remaining on Maximo user-based licenses can choose from two paths: (1) purchase Sustained Support from IBM in tandem with Projetech Extended Support; under Sustained Support customers retain rights to trade up user-based licenses toward the purchase of AppPoints, or (2) do not purchase Sustained Support; in this case customer will need to purchase AppPoints at “net new” pricing levels.

IBM Extended & Sustained Support Option

Another option for on-premises Maximo v.7.6.1.x customers with user-based license entitlements is to purchase IBM Extended Support. This extends the support of a Maximo v7.6.1.x system for one additional year (until September 30th, 2026).  To be eligible to purchase the IBM Extended Support product, customers must also purchase the IBM Sustained Support product. To be eligible for IBM Extended/Sustained Support, the customer’s S&S must be active, the software must be on the most recently released version of the legacy Maximo product (v7.6.1.3), and the customer must prepare a plan with IBM to move to MAS.

Following the IBM End of Extended Support date, September 30th, 2026, there will no longer be an IBM Extended Support option for Maximo v7.6.1.x. Customers can continue to purchase IBM Sustained Support until September 30th, 2030. Sustained Support includes support for usage and how-to questions as well as existing fixes that were available prior to the End of Support date; no new security patches will be available.
